As part of Muni’s #CutTheCrap #NoMoreButts campaign, we’ve decided to create a special feature on the illustrators and musicians who volunteered their time and talent to help raise awareness on the impact of cigarette butts on the environment and perform at the Muni #CutTheCrap gig on June 15, 2013 at Route 196. No Rome‘s Rome Gomez may be young, but he has shown a lot of promise as an emerging artist in the Philippine indie music scene. He started writing his own songs at the age of 12, more as a personal indulgence, experimenting on different genres of electronic music. His glimmery tones and infectious beats have the capacity to put listeners into another plane of good vibes. Being only seventeen, Rome will surely have a lot more music terrain to explore and take us along. Check out our interview with Rome below.
Muni: How did No Rome come to be?
Rome: No Rome is a a project i started a few years ago, and i just decided to release some of my songs in the internet world.
Muni: Who are your main influences? How did you find your passion for music?
Rome: My main influences are mostly Naked Eyes, Toro Y Moi, Millionyoung, Googolplex, New Order, NZCA/LINES. To say music is really what I’m most passionate about. My family is musically inclined so I grew up listening to new wave and stuff, my dad used to make music in our basement, and growing up I found interest to do it to. And it’s been my best friend ever since. LOL.
Muni: What messages do you want to convey through your music?
Rome: As much as possible to share as much love as I can.
Muni: What does “cutting the crap” mean to you?
Rome: Well based on Muni’s movement, “cutting the crap” means taking down that bad habit smokers do, like throwing their cigarettes everywhere.
Muni: What made you want to be part of the #CutTheCrap gig?
Rome: To help them and support them in this movement they are trying to build!
