As a comics artist, illustrator, and designer at Create.ph, he has done loads of cover art for various people, gigs, mixtapes, and more. Funny in a tongue-in-cheek kind of way, (probably deceptively) shy-looking with the right amount of endearing awkwardness, and remarkably quick to turnover artworks, Rob gives us a good number of reasons to love him. Read on to get to know him more.
Muni: Tell us a bit about your art. Rob: My art. I make comics, do illustration work, and when I can, do personal art stuff. All of which are in the vein of whatever I feel like doing but also in this style of comics-inspired linework, inking and coloring because I really do love the look and feel of it. Hopefully people like that.
Muni: Who are your main inspirations? How did you find your passion for art? Rob: Asaf Hanuka, Moebius, Luke Pearson, Craig Thompson, Dash Shaw, Brandon Graham, Michael DeForge, and Jesse Moynihan are the current people I look up to and love, art-wise and comic-wise. I know there are more.
I found my passion for art through just making art. I think it’s sort of how I best communicate what I can’t say with words alone. Well, maybe I could, but pictures help me get it by a bit faster.
Muni: What messages do you want to convey through your art? Rob: Depends on the thing.
Muni: What does “cutting the crap” mean to you? Rob: It means stop being shitty people. Well, that’s a bit mean but I think it gets it across; maybe we should not do bad things. Well, we do have control over our lives, so we can make a difference in the small changes we choose to do like how when we choose to do something, it affects the bigger picture no matter how small the change if we choose to do it together. It’s small things from everyone becoming a big thing so why not chip in and care?
Muni: What made you want to be part of the #CutTheCrap gig? Rob: I like the message. It’s something I feel like I can contribute to and make some change happen. I enjoy art. I like the people involved. I like the possible good ramifications. I like things.
