As part of Muni’s #CutTheCrap #NoMoreButts campaign, we’ve decided to create a special feature on the illustrators and musicians who volunteered their time and talent to help raise awareness on the impact of cigarette butts on the environment and perform at the Muni #CutTheCrap gig on June 15, 2013 at Route 196. Kikomachine Komix writer and cartoonist Manix Abrera joins our call for environmental awareness and mindful living with his #CutTheCrap illustrations:

While “bigatin” and the object of many-a-fangirling and fanboying, Manix remains one of the most modest people on the planet, and ultimately, an endearing human being, much like his quirky, unnamed Kikomachine Komix characters. Stepping out of his famous father Jess Abrera’s shadow, Manix has become a quintessential part of today’s Filipino comics scene, contributing not 1, not 3, not 5, but 9 books of Kikomachine Komix collection, and one “silent comics” book, titled 12. Apart from his comics, Manix is also quite the rock star, founding the Kiko Machine band in his college days in UP and playing for Gorgoro, a one-of-a-kind Pinoy rock band with a puppet vocalist. Manix also dabbles in sports such as diving and rowing (with the UP Dragonboat Team, no less!), and wishes that his comics spark discussion about the wonderful culture of the Philippines, the quirks of and in our society, and about how he is a “super bait [na] bata, grabe.” Read on to get to know him more.
Muni: Tell us a bit about your art.
Muni: Who is your main inspiration?
Muni: What messages do you want to convey through your illustrations?
Muni: What does “cutting the crap” mean to you?
Manix: Makisama tayo sa world, sa universe.
Muni: What made you want to be part of the #CutTheCrap gig?
