As part of Muni’s #CutTheCrap #NoMoreButts campaign, we’ve decided to create a special feature on the illustrators and musicians who volunteered their time and talent to help raise awareness on the impact of cigarette butts on the environment and perform at the Muni #CutTheCrap gig on June 15, 2013 at Route 196. See our other awesome #CutTheCrap collaborators here. —
Ad man JP Cuison is a two-time Cannes Young Lions International Advertising Festival representative. But more than his impressive work as a Senior Art Director work for the advertising industry, what we really love about JP is his distinct art style and his funny and irreverent take on things. Here, he amplifies Muni #CutTheCrap #NoMoreButts with his awesome play on a popular Batman meme!

His first solo exhibit was “GIGZILLA” which featured a collection of his gig posters. In his 2nd solo exhibit entitled “POPZILLA”, we saw Andy Warhol and weekend morning cartoons laced with Filipino culture influences: Rizal, Amorsolo, Juan Luna, etc. Meanwhile, his 3rd solo exhibit, “Warhol vs. Lichtenstein”, was a brawl between two of the most influential pop culture artists of all time. We can’t wait to see what he comes up with next! Read on to get to know him more.
Muni: Tell us a bit about your art.
JP: Well, since I’m a fine arts graduate, I’m pretty much exposed to different kinds of arts. But what really moved me is the Pop Art movement (Warhol, Koons, Lichtenstein, etc.). I’m fascinated by the Pop Art Subject. Me, I decided to go this route. And now I consider myself a Pop Artist.
Muni: Who are your main inspirations? How did you find your passion for art?
JP: Jack Kirby, Andy Warhol, Ed Roth, Ron English, etc.
I think I get my passion for the arts from my dad.
Muni: What messages do you want to convey through your art?
JP: I don’t want to convey a “hardcore message”. I don’t want that responsibility. I just want to entertain.
Muni: What does “cutting the crap” mean to you?
JP: Cutting the crap means cutting the future havoc that nature might do to us. Because we humans are turning this world into a giant “tae”.
Muni: What made you want to be part of the #CutTheCrap gig?
JP: If Manix Abrera approves, I will also join.
