#MUNIonThis: What if you could make your social good project happen with the help of others through technology?
This is what was discussed during the Crowdfunding for a Better Philippines event with Ricefield Collective, MuniPH and SocialProjectPH held at Co.lab last July 15, 2013.
Let’s face it, capital is one of the major hindrances for an idea to materialize. This event aims to show us how to bypass that through crowdsourcing.
The evening kicked off with Muni volunteer Paula Nierras, as she shared how our actions affect the greater picture and with just a few tweaks in our everyday decisions we can effect change and have a positive impact to the world, to our country, and ultimately to ourselves.
She stressed that as we become more involved in these kinds of endeavors, we notice that there are a lot of people out there who share the same sentiment. Through this, a community that influences and reinforces one another is created: A kind of community that Muni would like to build.
Next, Julia Sevilla, the founder of Kape Maria and the co-founder of SocialProjectPH, talked about the vision of SocialProjectPH and how it works on providing a crowdsourcing platform for Filipino social entrepreneurs so that they may have a wider reach with regard to supporters around the globe.
Meredith Talusan, the creative mind behind Ricefield Collective took center stage afterwards to discuss the practical and conceptual components that make up a successful crowdsourcing campaign, sharing tips on how their campaign managed to raise 300% of its target.
The night was capped off by the brainstorming session wherein Yadu (a bag manufacturing company) andBlack Pencil Project (a social venture that help send young children to school) discussed their ideas with the participants. The group in turn dissected the idea and pitched in suggestions on how to improve it.
In the end, I realized that everybody has a story to tell. And we all have the power to lend a helping hand. … If we only care to listen.
